Pick and Place Machine Design

In a team of 4, we designed and modeled a pick and place machine for an educational setting. The design utilizes an automated vacuum head that can be automatically changed to support a larger variety of electronic components. My role primarily involved designing the reel system, the vacuum head system, and the automated head changer.

Applications and Benefits

The pick and place machine is designed to automate the process of placing components on a PCB. By incorporating an automated vacuum head changer, it allows for flexibility in handling a wide variety of components, making it ideal for educational settings where different sizes and types of components are used. This design also provides a more efficient and repeatable process, enhancing learning and experimentation.

I used SolidWorks to model parts of the assembly. More specifically, the reel systems and the vacuum picker mechanism.
